Currently in My Makeup Drawer

Here are a few things in my makeup drawer I’m currently loving. Please note, I research the heck out of makeup before I buy and I am very particular! I wouldn’t recommend these things if I didn’t think it was worth it!

Here are some things I’ve currently purchased that are going into my makeup hall of fame. You can click on any picture and it’ll take you to a new page where you can purchase it and look at other reviews (if you’re on, that is).
Makeup For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation
I’ve noticed that this stuff is starting to be a cult favorite. I tried this on in the store when I had a ‘bad face day’. (Yes, there are bad face days and they deserve their own special recognition.) My face was peeling like crazy from using Retin-A and I had an acne flare up. This was a few months ago when I was trying to clear up my cystic/hormonal acne. This foundation actually made me look good when I previously looked like crap! The thing I love about this is I only use one pump (or 1 & 2 pumps on a bad face day) for full coverage, which justifies the steep price tag. I’ve had it since May and I have tons left. If you don’t like a full coverage foundation, this isn’t for you (although it is not a cake-y and fake looking full coverage). However, I’ve noticed that if you use it with a makeup sponge, you can achieve a light-medium coverage. Other things I’ve noticed is this stuff really stays on! You pretty much have to use makeup remover with this, as it doesn’t come off with just washing your face.
Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion
I saw this in a few different magazines and on a blog somewhere, all with raving reviews! I even heard it compared to the likes of Dior. I’m never going to spend that much money on freaking mascara, so I happily picked this up at the drug store. The results? Best drugstore mascara I’ve ever tried. Top five best mascaras I’ve ever tried, actually. Again, I don’t like to spend a lot of money on mascara since I have pretty long lashes and they look great when I use a curler and any mascara. I found this for under $5 on sale at the grocery store today!
NARS Orgasm/Laguna Duo
Best blush in the world meets the best bronzer in the world. How much better can life get? I adore both of the pigments in these products. I think these shades are universally flattering, but I love how they look on my pink-ish, fair skin tone. The key is to not overdo it. Apply the bronzer sparingly on places your face would naturally hit the sun (temple, cheekbone, and chin, like a 3 down the side of your face, along with a little on your nose) and the blush to the apples of your cheeks. Perfection!!!
MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder
I keep this in my purse and I am love love loving it. I used to wear only MAC (I was really really snobby about it) up until a few years ago. I went back to this powder, and I remember why. Simple goodness for touch ups.

Sephora Brand Mattifying Compact Foundation
This was on sale online for cheap so I grabbed it, not expecting it to be the next miracle, but I needed a setting powder. I actually really love it. I use it with a big powder brush and dust it lightly to set my foundation and concealer.

Sephora Brand Eyeshadow in Aspen Summit no23

I got this in a free birthday gift from Sephora and I very much love it. I think it’s great as a highlighter for underneath brows and can also be worn by itself lightly if you don’t want to wear a dark eyeshadow but want to brighten up your eyes. Great stuff for free.

Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Yellow
I picked this up on a whim while I was at the drugstore grabbing the Cover Girl mascara. I thought to myself, “Yellow neutralizes purple because they’re opposites on the color wheel.” (Yes, I am that awesome to think about Color Theory on a daily basis.) It was on sale and I felt I had nothing to lose. I was pleasantly surprised upon application. I have used some pretty expensive concealers lately (I’m talking $30 for a tiny freaking little bottle) and they haven’t come close to neutralizing the discoloration around my eyes. Sometimes I’ll add a little of my other spot concealer to it for some extra coverage, which looks great. (Yes, you sometimes need a separate under eye concealer and a spot concealer if the under eye concealer is too thick for acne/oily skin. I’m still looking for my Holy Grail spot concealer. I’m dying to try the $85 Cle de Peu. Any suggestions?) Anyway, the key with this yellow stuff is to absolutely make sure you’re wearing a nice moisturizing eye cream and that you set this with your setting powder. This will prevent creasing and/or settling into fine lines.

I’ll do another post with my ‘Holy Grail’ beauty products that I have loved for years. But for now…

What are your current beauty favorites?  I love discovering new things and I love suggestions!

  1. i randomly picked up the maybelline concealer when i was desperate for some and i’m so glad i did! i love it!

  2. Sign…. I probably should wear more make up, but at least I don’t scare my family or the cows. I usually don’t go out without my MK mascara and eyeliner on. The rest is gravy for someone else ;-)

  3. Ooooh I’ve been wanting to try the MUFE foundation!!!!!!!! I hear sooooo many good things about it!!!!! I need to go ahead and buy some when I run out of my Clinique. Thanks for reviewing! :)

  4. I started using Lash Blast when it first came out. I love it.

I’m definitely going to try the Makeup For Ever stuff. I have scars on my chin from teenage acne and almost nothing will cover it. Drives me crazy!

  5. I want to try the foundation and mascara for sure!
    This is a great review!
I totally understand about having a bad face day! Must be hormonal or something…Drives me nuts right now!
    Thanks for the visit!
    You rock!

  6. bare essentials starter kit is totally worth the price. it lasts me at least 6 months and makes my face look so good!

moroccan oil is the best thing i have ever gotten for my hair and of course mac lipglass

great suggestions! I’m definitely going to try out the HD and mascara! thank you for your lovely comment, it was just beautiful :)

  7. Stopping by from Life of Meg.

I’m a MAC girl currently but I feel like I’ve tried them all…ha!

I will definitely stop back by!! Have a great day!

  8. I definitely have a make-up post in my drafts right now. ha ha. I just bought a toooooon of makeup from MAC. I’ve never had nice makeup before. It’s expensive but SO worth it! :)

  9. I use the same foundation…but I have the entire collection and love it. The concealer is awesome! And my skin has cleared up so much using those products.

  10. I have wondered about that mascara – good to know!

  11. I’m happy to decided to do this topic! I’m feeling very smug, as I got the preview in my kitchen a couple of weekends ago. Kisses!

Oooo…I need a new mascara. I’ve been using VS Very Sexy mascara, because I read in a mag – Vogue or W? – that it was awesome. It’s good, but $5 beats $12.

One of my top favs is “shadow insurance” by Two Faced. It really does make everything last, and it prevents creases. Of course you know I love CeraVe – cheap, basic, fabulous lotion. On top of that, every morning, my face gets Neutrogena 85 sunscreen with helioplex. :)

  12. Chanel, Bobbi Brown, & MAC are definitely my go-to brands for make-up! My skin is really sensitive, but the Chanel Teint Innocence foundation is a dream! I’ll never use anything but it. It seems pricey {$45}, but it literally lasts me at least 5 months! It’s amazing!

Great blog! Glad I found you! From Life of Meg :)

  13. Oooh great picks! NARS Orgasm blush is a must-have for me. Other favorites:

Benefit YOUrebel Tinted Moisturizer: Love, love having a fake tan with this one’s help…

    LORAC coverup: magic. pure magic.

Both at Sephora, Give ‘em a whirl.

Stopping by from Mingle Monday, check me out at

  14. found you on mingle monday, read through a few of your posts and they do make me laugh!
especially your cousin’s staus updates lol.
gotta follow you now your hilarious. x

  15. I love this post! I am a huge cheapo on makeup as much as I would love to splurge at Sephora, I so can’t afford it…yet!

I love makeup and can’t usually go into a drug store without purchasing makeup of some sort. My biggest thing to buy is mascara, and I hate when I buy a new tube and love it, but weeks later it clumps and looks bad – I am yet to find a consistently good mascara. I will definitely try this out!!

Thanks for your message on the tattoos! I firmly believe that you should love and carefully select something that will permanently be visible on your body. My boyfriend has two tattoos that aren’t very meaningful to him, which is totally cool with him, but I couldn’t do it (they suit him though). I knew when choosing my tattoos that I had to love them the rest of my life. If you ever decide to get one, that’s my one suggestion. Think about it, decide on one, and then wait for at least a few months so you know you won’t change your mind – and steer clear of the tramp stamp! haha!

  16. Oh! I love Sephora – isn’t that the most fun store? I need to get some of that Orgasm blush, I’m almost out of what I’ve been using and have wanted to try it. I’m so darn fair though that the Sephora people could only find one concealer pale enough for me – and it was $60 of course! So I’m wondering if the blush might be too dark? Will have to go to Sephora and check it out!

    xo Erin

  17. I love this post! I’m always looking for good foundation/concealer/powder. I have pretty good skin except for my horrendous dark circles. Thanks for the tips!
