Breastfeeding is a lot of work. It’s hard for many moms to be successful with it in the first place, and then there are other moving parts to keep it going. Nursing enough, pumping, eating the right things, keeping your supply up, etc.
When you’re breastfeeding, not only can it be time consuming but it also definitely takes a toll on your body. In my experience, the breastfeeding hungry uglies are far worse than any other hunger I’ve experienced, including during my pregnancies. I get hangry. If I don’t eat, I feel lightheaded. I also turn into an angry monster. Don’t even try to ask me an important question if I am hangry, let alone be in the same room as me. You have been warned. If I wait too long, I end up binging. If I don’t have something healthy on hand, I end up overindulging on something I shouldn’t have. This undoes all of the healthy choices I’ve been making.
Staying hydrated and healthy snacking is so important when you’re breastfeeding. It rings true for me! I’ve compiled a list healthy snacks for breastfeeding moms that keep me satisfied but are also “clean.” I try to avoid processed ingredients and stick to items that are whole foods. I try to pack at least two healthy snacks to take to work, so that when the breastfeeding hunger strikes, I do not turn into an evil demon woman and I can immediately grab something.
