I mentioned in last Friday’s post how we did our first beach trip of the summer last week. I went with Lauren, Michelle, and our kids. I wrangled up some stuff to take with us the night before, packing my car with my chairs, cooler, and beach bag. Being prepared is important for any beach trip, especially with young kids.
I am not a fancy beach mama with cool designer much of anything. Sometimes, you just gotta throw things in whatever bag you find and it gets the job done. In fact, my beach bag is a gift with purchase thing from Ulta. So it was free. Super fancy! Let’s just dive right in to see what we’ve got here.
Cheap ol’ Sunglasses. Never will I bring expensive sunglasses to the beach. Oh, who am I kidding? I don’t own a pair of expensive sunglasses to begin with! Anyway, cheap sunglasses (preferably from Target) are the best because if they somehow get lost or swim away, no big deal.
Sunscreen. I mean, I’m kind of stating the obvious here that you should wear sunscreen to the beach. But what’s important here is using the right sunscreen. I look for natural sunscreens containing zinc and titanium dioxide because they are safer. The EWG website has a good guide on researching and finding one.
Beach Toys. I brought a pail, some shovels, and a little dump truck and the kiddos loved playing with it. Honestly, though, they don’t need tons of toys because they get entertained by the sand, waves, and everything else. I brought a kite and Kennedy wasn’t interested in it because she just wanted to play on the shoreline.
Lip Balm. I knew the wind and sun would really give my skin a beating, including my lips. I am not a huge fan of the EOS lip balms (I must be the only person ever), so it went with me and I wouldn’t have cared if it got lost in the sand somewhere.
Sun Hat. I brought this and totally forgot about it so I didn’t wear it. Fail. However, I love big floppy hats. They are a lifesaver at the beach in terms of sun protection. And for some reason the sun at the beach always seems worse!
Snacks. If you have kids, you know you basically can’t ever leave the house without snacks. I also brought a small cooler with bottled water and some fruit. I just love that picture above of Caroline with a sandy face eating a snack. Let’s face it, you can’t escape the sand at the beach, especially with a baby. At least this was helping to build her immune system?
Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Spray. Since I didn’t wear my floppy hat, I got a liiiiiittle burnt. But I chucked this in the bag for after the beach. If you’ve been following me for a while, you may have remembered me talking about using the Vaseline sprays during pregnancy. I absolutely love the spray moisturizers, but the aloe one is awesome for after the sun and my skin is looking good.
Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer is a continuous spray lotion that’s now infused with micro-droplets of Vaseline jelly. It applies fast, is quick to dry. I love that it’s not thick, sticky, or greasy, and it really leaves my skin feeling soft. I also find it refreshing to use, which is an added benefit after being out in the hot sun for hours.
And because I’m all about this stuff, you get some awesome photos of me using it. I’m a professional Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer sprayer.
