I’ve seen a few things here and there saying we shouldn’t use the term “girl boss.” Rather, we should call creative, profitable, and powerful women just bosses. That adding the “girl” implies that men are normally the boss.
I don’t know. I’m proud of being a girl and proud of being a boss. Isn’t it okay to be both?
Also, for me, the term “girl boss” is lighthearted. It’s fun.
I’m lighthearted and fun, too.
As a woman, there are a whole different set of expectations on us, and to be able to play so many roles is commendable. I’m a mom, a wife, a teacher, a blogger, and a part workshop owner. I love makeup. I have two daughters. Things are pretty feminine around here.
I love that femininity. But that femininity doesn’t imply that I’m subdued and passive. Why does saying the word “girl” imply “less powerful”? Why can’t we be proud of being girls and bosses?
I’m proud that I can contour ’til the cows come home, and I’m also proud that I have an entrepreneurial spirit that helps me run a successful blog.
I embrace all of these qualities about myself.
I’m not really trying to get into a debate on feminism or discourage anyone. I just want to spread positivity to women and say that it’s okay to embrace both your softer and fiercer sides of yourself. Not that “girl” means “soft” and “boss” means “fierce.”
Because you can totally interchange those, as well. As a boss, it’s crucial to show patience and to uplift others. And as a girl, we’ve got to do hard things that nobody else can.
For me, being a woman really is about embracing those hard and soft qualities. It’s okay to dress up and wear heels, and it’s also okay to put on a pair of yoga crops, running shoes, and a “Girl Boss” tank. It’s okay to be a fiercer girl and an uplifting, encouraging boss.
I’m not “just a girl boss,” but I wear this tank to encourage myself on days when I feel unmotivated or discouraged. It reminds me that I am a complex creature who is capable of so many things.

You’re adorable and I feel the exact same way! We can be feminine and be bosses. We can be girly and still be fierce! Loving the pictures and the outfit 🙂

Amen! I am proud of being a woman or girl or whatever it is that screams I’m a lady. If I can pair that with boss, even better. I am what I am, and I think we should all be able to embrace it however we want. Xoxo
