I’ve been a little obsessed with scrubs in the summer. When I self tan, exfoliation is key. It ensures that the self-tanner doesn’t go on or fade off patchy. I find myself using scrubs far more in the summer than the winter months for this reason. While I do love a lot of scrubs in my collection, I have been into making my own, especially oatmeal sugar scrubs. Fun fact: oatmeal is an amazing ingredient in skincare. It’s perfect for all skin types. The FDA recognized it as a safe and effective ingredient in skincare. So, my friends, I bring you my Coconut Oatmeal Sugar Scrub!
Coconut oil is one of those “miracle oils” that really benefits the skin and hair. I’ve also added jojoba oil in this recipe as a little booster, which is said to be close to the structure of human sebum. It can certainly be omitted from this if you do not have any on hand, but I highly recommend getting some to incorporate into your beauty routine. (I’ve been loving it as a nighttime moisturizer and on my cuticles!)
Anyway, back to the scrub. I’ve enjoyed using it a few ways – as a hand scrub after I wash my hands, as a lip scrub before I apply makeup, or in the shower as a body scrub. I love how my skin feels after using this, and the best part is it smells like a cookie. I know you will love it, too. The best part is you probably have most of the ingredients in your pantry! I don’t like to make too much of this at one time, so that’s why I’ve kept the portions small. You can certainly double/triple the ingredients if you want to make a big batch (would be a great gift for girlfriends).
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 Tablespoon honey
- 1/4 cup unrefined coconut oil
- 1 Tablespoon jojoba oil (optional)
- Melt coconut oil either by placing a glass cup of it in hot water or in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.
- Roughly grind oats in a food processor or coffee grinder, and place into a bowl.
- Add sugar, honey, melted coconut oil, and jojoba oil.
- Mix well.
Hope you all give this a try. Let me know what you think!

Oh, I love homemade scrubs and this one sounds really nice. I can only imagine how good it smells. I’ll probably add some real vanilla as it has many skin benefits and would make it even more like a cookie smell. 😉

Thank you, this is the best scrub I’ve ever used – shop bought included!
I loved it that much, that when I found I’d run out of coconut oil, I used olive oil instead, and it works just as well…… however, I prefer the smell of the coconut oil batch (it smells DIVINE!!)
