Friday Updates // No to Naps, Yes to Highlighters

Happy Friday, friends! I hope you all have had a great week. We have been doing  a lot of hanging out and not keeping very busy. It’s been sort of a lay low week for us, but that’s okay by me! Lately life has been slow and busy at the same time.

HIGLIGHTER ON FLEEK // I seriously cannot get enough of the Jaclyn Hill x Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop. It is quite possibly my favorite highlighter ever. I know there has been a ton of buzz about this product all over the internet, and trust me…. all of the hype is true! It is the most perfect champagne peachy-gold tone. I practically bathe myself in it.

A SUMMER OF CHANGES // This summer has brought some pretty big changes for our family. (No, I am not pregnant. My goodness! Haha.) It involves careers and the plan for the upcoming school year. This really deserves its own post, and I am going to share more soon. These changes are very exciting and different and I am very, very hopeful for what the future brings.
A TEMPORARY SAHM // Summer has been a time for me to get a little taste of what it’s like to be a stay at home mom. I have mad respect for the women who can do this every single day. It’s hard work and I feel like I kind of stink at it. Props to you, SAHMs! Not to mention Kennedy has straight up stopped napping. This has been rough on me. I loveddddddddd the girls’ afternoon nap time. Up until two weeks ago, they both would nap at the same time, no problems. All of a sudden Kennedy just started getting out of her bed and leaving her room. The day she learned how to use a doorknob was definitely not a joyous one. I personally feel that she’s tired and needs her nap, because she is super whiny in the evenings. I could be wrong, though. To compensate for my sanity, I have been making her do “quiet time.” She gets to watch a favorite movie or play on the iPad with her headphones on. Judge me all you want with using screen time with Hello Kitty headphones as quiet time, but a mama’s gotta do what a mama’s gotta do. I don’t even know if it’s worth fighting her over the nap and trying to make her nap. Anyone have any tips or wisdom? I’m dying over here.
chopped salad
THIS BOMB SALAD // Greg and I threw together this salad on Sunday and OMG WHY DON’T WE EAT THIS MORE? It was all chopped up and had a romaine mix, grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, blue cheese, cherry tomatoes, carrots, corn and cucumbers. It was so filling and not too terrible on the spectrum of healthy vs. non-healthy. Perfect for summer and definitely into the permanent rotation.

Oh, and SNAP ME! Add me at: mo-meg. I’ve been playing around with snapchat and I’m having a lot of fun. It’s waaaaaaaaay less pressure than Instagram to curate a beautiful feed of photos. I resisted creating an account for a long time, and I lurked for a while before I jumped in. BUT! It’s actually been really refreshing. It’s more of a “behind the scenes” look at lives It’s just me and my kids being silly. I hope and I pray that Snapchat never becomes like Instagram… that would kill me!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

The nap thing. I feel ya. She’s 3 already? It’s probably time. My oldest ditched the nap around 3… When I was huge and preggo and tired. Not cool but necessary. Middle child ditched the nap when we got her big girl bed around 2.5. Worst decision ever. Quiet time in front of a screen is OK! I would plant her in front of the TV (Netflix Dinosaur Train or Octonauts) while I took baby brother to his nap. It was the only way it would work. Gotta do what you gotta do! My baby will be in his crib until he can climb out of it. The few weeks/months? After they stop napping are rough because they are (and we are) transitioning to a new routine. Maybe make bedtime a smidge earlier if she’s really cranky in the evenings?

What’s the deal with instagram being an unhappy place? I can’t add another distraction to my life (snapchat?)… Plus I am so not into the latest and greatest anything. Which is probably why I’m clueless about instagram not being awesome anymore.

Yeah, she’s 3.5… I know it is time for her to drop naps but I don’t wannnaaaaaa! Screen time it is! And yeah, we should probably move her bedtime up.

And it’s not that Instagram isn’t cool anymore! It is and I love it. It definitely still is happy. I just sometimes feel like it’s alllllll about the pretty and staged photos and creating a beautiful feed. That’s ok and great, but snapchat has been fun to just be unedited and unfiltered.

Girl I dread the no nap days. Scarlett is still pretty consistent with napping and I don’t see her dropping it anytime soon but I will 100% be making her do quiet time if she does… so no judgment here. I seriously need that hour to recharge and I find S get’s clingy when she’s tired.

That salad looks so yummy and I can’t wait to hear about your career change(s)/upcoming school year!

PS I think you rock at the whole SAHM thing, I mean that princess tea party was SO cute. I keep meaning to do something like that with S and I forget. womp womp.

I am not looking forward to when my little guy stops napping all together. That my “mommy get crap done” time. Maybe implement a “quiet time”? That highlighter is so pretty!
