At Home Microdermabrasion with PMD

Disclosure: Thank you to PMD Personal Microderm for partnering with me on this post. As always, opinions 100% mine.

About 7 years ago, I was working hard to look great before my wedding. I was doing the typical bride-to-be prep: working out, eating right, and taking care of myself. I started getting microdermabrasion treatments in a doctor’s office, because I was dealing with some adult acne. I didn’t want to worry about any breakouts or skin issues on the day I walked down the aisle.

I absolutely loved microdermabrasion. My skin looked amazing on our wedding day and, looking back, I wish I had kept up the treatments.

I had heard of PMD Personal Microderm before, but never thought anything of it until recently when I had the opportunity to give it a try! I am super picky with skincare products (long time readers know this!), and I was skeptical that it would be different to the in-office treatments I received years ago.

Getting a microdermabrasion treatment is even easier now - you can do it at home! And honestly, it's just as good as the in-office treatments I've had.

Straight out of the box, it is a sleek device without too many bells and whistles. Not too many parts to keep up with. It comes with a cord that must be attached for the device to work, some extra discs, and an instructional DVD.

The instructional DVD was a nice touch, because you definitely just don’t want to plug this thing in and go to town. They break it down for you and it is easy to follow and understand. After watching the video, I decided to skip past the training disc and go straight for the sensitive one. It also has larger discs for the face and body.

In order to use the device, you hold your skin taught and move the device in upward strokes. While I was using it, it felt exactly like those in-office treatments I received years ago. Seriously, it was identical.

So, what does this thing actually do? The Personal Microderm uses a patented spinning disc with aluminum crystals that exfoliate the dead skin cells away. It also contains a vacuum suction, which pulls blood flow to the skin’s surface and increases circulation. It also triggers the body to heal, which in turn builds collagen and elastin. A lot of at home microdermabrasion devices do not not have a suction function, which is key to a successful microdermabrasion treatment.

I have been really happy with my skincare routine lately, so I was skeptical to add in another treatment. My skin has been behaving so well for me. Luckily, the PMD device is meant to be used only once a week. I gave it a spin a few times and I am, quite honestly, thrilled with it.

How to Use the PMD Personal Microderm

When I first used it, I immediately thought it felt identical to my in-office treatments I had years ago. I was pleasantly surprised, because I did not expect it to have the same sort of power. (It is not painful, though!) I had no idea there was anything close, let alone identical to my in-office experience. I kid you not.

Immediately after use, my skin felt incredibly soft and smooth, even into the next morning.

After a few weeks of use, the results from the PMD have quite literally been identical, as well. The size of my pores on my cheeks and nose are diminishing, and some of my fine lines around my mouth are a teensy bit fainter. I seriously cannot wait to see how my skin looks in a few months.

This picture below is me completely bare-faced without any photo retouching whatsoever. This is big because I really am wary to put up bare-faced photos. But hey, you’re welcome, Internet.

PMD Personal Microderm Before and After

What I love about this treatment, most of all, is that it is easy to keep up with. You use it once a week, and it only takes a few minutes. No crazy steps to follow. Swipe it across your face and you’re done. I can get on board with this, for sure!

I’m officially an at-home microdermabrasion convert!

  1. Glad to hear such good results! I was surprised how inexpensive it is– I was expecting way more. By the time you paid for two treatments at the spa/dermatologist, this thing has paid for itself! Thanks for sharing, Meg!

    1. Thanks, girl!! Yes, I was also surprised at how cost effective it is! I am really really impressed with it. So far it is a great addition to my skincare routine!

  2. So it’s 2022 now 🙂 you still use this device? I’m looking into for something for my son and black heads. Pinterest search led me to these types of devices – same brand in fact. But I figured I’d find a trusted review first. Thought of you of course! Used the search bar from IG link that led me to this 2016 blog post haha
