Pinterest Inspired Gallery Wall

I actually completed a DIY / home decor project I saw on Pinterest! I have a giant blank wall off the side of my living room and it needed some spicing up. I saw this pin on Pinterest and thought I could totally do that. In fact, I could totally rip that off. I want a Pinterest Gallery Wall! I wanna be cool!

I marked a line down the center of the wall with 2 inch blue painter’s tape.

See? Told ya. Big giant blank wall.

I bought frames ranging from 3×5 to 11×14 all at the dollar store or Walmart. The most I spent on a frame was $5, which was the 11×14 size. The majority of the frames were 95 cents to 1 dollar. I decided it would be easiest just to take the inserts of the frames and arrange them around the line. I knew it wouldn’t account for the frame itself, but I was willing to be a little off around the edges. I spaced them to where I thought the edge of the frame would be. This way I could see if I had enough of each size. My husband said he liked the way it looked like this and I should keep it this way. Ha.

Next, I hung the frames with this special picture hanging tape stuff. Let me tell you – SO much easier than putting a million holes in this wall! And I tested these things – they really do come off the wall without taking the paint or drywall.

Finally, I took the blue tape off and it looked perfect!

All of the pictures I used are in black and white, which took me a while to do in Photoshop on my computer. The prints of all the photos were actually more expensive than the frames. Overall, I believe this project took about $70-80 to complete. Pretty awesome, if I don’t say so myself! It wasn’t too time consuming, although it definitely took a few hours to do over the course of a couple of days. I am thrilled with the way it looks and people who have come over have loved the way it looks, too!

Pinterest Inspired Gallery Wall - use painter's tape to mark a space and then hang various size pictures above and below it. Hang with command strips. Super easy!

I love the way it turned out. Whenever I see arrangement like that it seems like it must have taken forever and like nine million calculations to make it all look even. Guess I was wrong :)

Great job! I have a wall that needs a photo display, just not sure HOW I’m going to do it yet… the layout, etc. Or when even, but it will get done eventually.

OMGOSH I love that wall. I pinned it too and now I SOOO want to do it :)

I love it even more that you did it all in black and white. I may just have to be a copycat!

FANTASTIC job, Meg!! It looks awesome. We have the exact type of wall up in our upstairs hallway and I’ve been wanting to do the same gallery way (inspired by that Pin) but now that we’re attempting to sell our home, it’s kind of been put on hold. Thanks for sharing– looks awesome!

I am still sad you didn’t make print out that picture of me I texted you giant size to put up :) I forgot to ask you, did you print out the pictures yourself or did you have them done? I want to do a smaller wall over our bed but with a mix match of frames and all these awesome concert prints I am finding on pinterest.

ahhhhhhmazing. My photo wall was looking bland so I recently bought new ones to add to it, but they’ve been sitting all laid out on the floor for over a week now because I am too lazy to do all the work with the nails and stuff. WHAT did you use? One quick trip to Walmart and I might finally be back in action :)

LOVE this Meg! I am so jealous. When I get a house, or my next apartment I plan on living at long-term, I am totally doing this. You did a great job & the photos look amazing in B&W!

Ahh! Love it! Can you come to my house in The Woodlands and make one for me?? :) We just moved into our new house 2 days ago and I spent an hour walking around staring at walls trying to figure out which one I wanted to do a gallery on…

This looks great! About how much wall space did you have to work with? I have a large empty wall myself and want to fill it up with something like this.

It is a HUGE space, like a hallway’s worth. I just bought a lot of different sized frames and ended up having to return the ones I didn’t use.

How many strips did you use per picture and where did you place the strips, on the wall or on the frame (sides, center, etc.) It’s been a while since you did this… Have any of them come off yet?

That is what I was wondering too. The photo has the strips on the wall . Just wondering for future removal, how you get your fingers between the frame & wall to release the strip.

This is a great idea for a large wall. I have black and white pictures hanging along my hallway walls. All black and white. I went to any resale shop and found mainly wooden picture frames some with matting, too. I used household black paint to paint frames and painted the matting either black or white. The cost for a frame and a bonus if you find a frame with the matting and a hook to hold picture on the back of frame. Frames cost me from .25-$3.00 each. It was time consuming to take the frame apart, paint frame, matting, wash, clean and dry glass, but so worth it. I did this to about 40 frames and they’re all hanging in the hallway. Vintage pictures of Grandparents, Parents, siblings and any other family member. I am so happy with the results and encourage you to try this..you will enjoy looking at memories of loved ones for years. Happy framing!
