I don’t know about you, but I have the worst cuticles ever. I also get in the habit of picking at them. If I am not constantly keeping my hands moisturized and taking care of my cuticles, they get awful! They’re jagged, picked apart and it gets painful. I recently discovered the amazingness called nail soaks. What’s a nail soak, you ask? You soak your nails in some highly moisturizing oils. They are meant to really strengthen and condition the nails, just like you would with a leave-in or hot oil treatment for your hair.
Every once in a while I concoct my own at home nail soak. This is the easiest body care DIY ever!
I reach for jojoba oil because apparently it’s very close to the structure of human sebum, which makes it an effective moisturizer. Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil will soothe any brittleness or aid peeling nails. Not to mention, it smells amazing. I love doing this at night as a way to relax, and the lavender essential oil certainly helps with that.
All you need is:
Gently buff your nails and then soak them in the oils for about 10-15 minutes. Massage the oils into the nails while soaking. After soaking, wipe excess away with a damp cloth.
Like I said, easiest DIY body care recipe ever. You have to try this at home nail soak and let me know what you think. If you don’t have jojoba oil, you can easily substitute it with melted coconut oil or olive oil. You can also add whatever fancy essential oils you have. I’m no fancy essential oils crunchy person, so I’m probably not a great person to get a recommendation from (although I have about 10 or so and love them). I would imagine tea tree oil would be awesome, because it soothes dry skin. In fact, I’m totally trying that next time.
